Shots in the Library, your idea of the Library in a simple photo shot!
From 15 September to 15 October (extended to 28 October), you can participate in the Contest organized by the University Library System by submitting up to 5 photographs taken in Unifi libraries. There will be prizes and publication of the photos selected by the Jury on the home page of the SBA website.
The Contest is aimed at raising awareness of and promoting the University’s libraries and involving students in the production of photographic content for the website and social channels of the Library System.

Notice of competition
The University of Florence Library System is holding the contest “Shots in the Library,” aimed at raising awareness, promoting the University’s libraries, and involving students in producing photographic content for the website and social channels of the Library System.
Who can take part in the competition
All students enrolled in the University of Florence, as long as they fulfil the following prerequisites:
- have not been convicted of any criminal offenses and that have no pending criminal or administrative proceedings for the application of security or preventive measures, nor do they have a criminal record against them that can be entered in the criminal record book pursuant to Article 686 of the Code of Criminal Procedure
- enjoy civil and political rights in the states of their nationality or origin (for foreign nationals)
Subject of the competition
Participants may submit a maximum of 5 photographs taken in the University of Florence libraries in the allowed formats and types (see next paragraph) that represent their emotional perceptions and life experiences related to libraries.
Types and characteristics of photos allowed
Participants’ photographs can be either color or black and white.
Photos must be submitted in JPG format with a size of 1920x960 pixels (1920 horizontally, 960 vertically).

Images that do not conform to the specifications will not be considered.
How and when to submit the entries
Photos must be submitted via the appropriate form that can be reached at https://forms.gle/ZnwudKWVr3hrm5M28 (access through stud.unifi.it or unifi.it email address)
The form must be completed in its entirety and comply with the required dimensions for the attachments (max. 5).
Entries must be received by October 15, 2022 (extended to 28 October).
Each photo should be named as follows:
lastname_firstname_sequential number
(e.g. rossi_mario_01, rossi_mario_02 etc.)
Quality Jury
After the deadline to submit entires has expired, the photographs will be evaluated by a Jury appointed by the Rector upon the recommendation of the Libraries Commission. The Jury will rank the qualified photos and award prizes to the top three finishers.
Evaluation criteria
All photos corresponding to the types and formats described above will be submitted to the Quality Jury for evaluation.
The Jury will evaluate the projects based on the following criteria:
- consistency with the subject of the competition;
- originality of the shot;
- communicative effectiveness;
- technical quality.
At the end of the evaluation procedure, the Jury will draw up a report of the completed operations and prepare the ranking list of merit according to the descending order of the score awarded. Prizes will be awarded to the candidates who achieve the highest score; in case of a tie, the youngest candidate takes precedence (Art. 2 paragraph 9 L. 191/98).
The award is granted by decree of the Director of the “Area per la Valorizzazione” approving the acts and will be published on the Official Journal of the University and the Library System website, as well as any amendments or additions to this act.
Final awards and acknowledgments
All photos judged worthy, be they contest winners or not, will be published in rotation on the homepage of the University Library System website www.sba.unifi.it and the System’s social channels with attribution of the work.
Prizes of 400, 200, and 100 euros (net of taxes) will be awarded to the top three winners.
Following the approval of the ranking list, successful applicants will be invited by email to the address given when applying to formalize their acceptance of the award by signing an appropriate form. Any successful candidates who do not sign the acceptance form within 15 days of receiving it will be considered a renouncer.
Conditions of Participation
Photos must be clear, free of any elements that are potentially offensive or contrary to good taste and decency, or otherwise likely to offend the sensibilities of other individuals.
Photos must not contain elements that could harm or damage any person or group of people or encourage persecution of individuals based on ethnicity, opinion, nationality, gender, profession, or creed. They must also not encourage crime or encourage breaking the law.
Failure to comply with the limits stated in the preceding paragraphs will result in immediate exclusion from the Contest.
Image ownership and copyright
Participation in the Contest automatically entails the author granting the organizers the right to reproduce the submitted photographs on the University Library System website and other University websites, on the social media channels of the Library System and the University, in catalogs and other printed or unprinted publications. The University Library System may use them for its own dissemination by indicating the author without commercial or profit-making purposes. Submission of photos confirms acceptance of this condition and is, at the same time, a release to use the images.
For the purpose of improvement or adaptation for publication on various communication channels (website, social media), photos may be cropped or reduced in size.
Processing of personal data
According to EU Regulation 679/2016 and Legislative Decree 101/2018, the data required by this Contest will be used exclusively for its intended purposes. They will be subject to processing carried out with or without the aid of computer tools in full compliance with the aforementioned regulations and the confidentiality obligations to which public entities are bound. Data are processed in such a way as to ensure their security and confidentiality by taking technical and administrative security measures to reduce the risk of data loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, and tampering.
Participation in the Contest implies permission for the above data handling.

Under Law No. 241/1990, as amended, as well as the "Regulations on Administrative Proceedings of the University of Florence," the competent organizational unit is identified as the University Library System, Via Capponi 7, 50121 Florence.
