Born in Turin in 1942, after teaching at the Politecnico di Milano, Magnaghi joined Unifi in 1989 as a full professor and lecturer of Territorial Planning and Analysis of Urban and Territorial Structures. In Florence, he founded and directed the Laboratory of Ecological Planning of Settlements (LAPEI), the first doctorate in Territorial Planning, and the degree courses in Territorial Planning at the University's Empoli campus. He was at the origins of the Territorialist School and the Society of Territorialists Onlus.
